LATTICE BUTTERFLIES CARD

Just a little splash of color with these five bright butterflies!  This is another one of those BIG SHOT cards!  It's only 4-1/4" X 4-1/4" but it's loaded with lots of action.  This is the first chance I've had to use my *new* Stampin' Up! Lattice Bigz Die™.  I love it!  Every time I look at it I see something different.  Sometimes it's congruent circles, another time it's four petal flowers, then there are times I see just leaves.  It makes a great background to these five handsomely embossed butterflies.  Our *new* Stampin' Up! Beautiful Wings Embosslits Die™ is fabulous.  So how did I ever PAPER CRAFT before I had my Stampin' Up! BIG SHOT by Sizzix™?

Mukibug Tips:

• I rubber stamped all my little expressions on Whisper White cardstock and then punched them out using the *new* MEDIUM JEWELRY TAG PUNCH™.
• I picked them all up, held them all neatly together and punched through ALL of them just once with my 1/16" CIRCLE PUNCH™ to create the hole for the crochet string (available anywhere knitting & crochet supplies are sold).
• My lattice is up off the card thanks to the skinny left overs on my DIMENSIONALS™ adhesive sheet.  I just snip those narrow pieces on the edges and use them behind the thin lattice.  The lattice is magically floating above the surface of the CLOSE TO COCOA card.

Sending thoughts & love in a hand stamped card is the kindest way to express your feelings.  This card expresses gentle concern with the soft tones of MELLOW MOSS™ and CLOSE TO COCOA™ cardstock. With all the Stampin' Up! Exclusive matching colors, any project goes together quickly.  One of my most favorite things about Stampin' Up! is all the coordinating product for any paper crafting project.

Mukibug Tips:

• The jumbo scallop trim on the front of the card was created from punching VERY VANILLA™ circles using the 3/4" CIRCLE PUNCH™.  I ran a strip of SNAIL™ permanent adhesive across the back of the CLOSE TO COCOA™ and then adhered the circles starting at the center and moving out to the edges so the circles/scallops are symmetrical.
• I added the VERY VANILLA™ layered cardstock on the inside of the card to stamp the sentiment on.  It helps it to stand out better and also allows for a brighter surface to write a note.
• Your eyes are not playing tricks on you, the ALWAYS ARTICHOKE™ leaves I rubber stamped the second time, after stamping the tree, were so close to the original Close to Cocoa leaves, that it plays tricks on your eyes. (Maybe a 3rd stamping of leaves is needed here!)

I believe LUCK is PREPARATION meeting OPPORTUNITY.  So, go ahead and make fortune smile down on you! With St. Patrick's Day coming up soon, I've gotten into the theme of green already!  This cute Lucky definition from the DEFINE YOUR LIFE™ rubber stamp set is perfect for my four-leaf clover theme.  The tall Spring green grass was created using the INSPIRED BY NATURE™ rubber stamp set.  Keep it Simple Sweety (KISS) is the theme for this weeks Paper Pal Arts #30 Challenge.

Mukibug Hints:

• I found using the smallest heart of the three hearts on the HEART TO HEART PUNCH™ makes for some great clovers.
• The stem of my clovers was created using the branch from the XL 2-STEP BIRD PUNCH™.  I did have to snip off a few of the leaves on the branch for the stem of the four leave clover.
• Although I used the SMALL TAG PUNCH™ to create my lucky tag, I made the tag longer to accommodate the size of my stamped phrase.  See my Simply Adorned™ Charm Bracelet post to learn more about this technique.
• Create the tag hole reinforcement by punch an OLD OLIVE™ circle with the 1/2" CIRCLE PUNCH™, adhere it to your tag and then punch a hole through both layers of the tag with the CROP-A-DILE™.

BIG Valentine Mail

How fun to receive a SPECIAL card in the mail!  Especially when it's RED!  Someone will be THRILLED to get a PERSONAL NOTE that IS NOT a monthly bill!  This card, however, is not just ANY card.  This is a card filled with a WHOLE LOT of LOVE!

You will notice this card doesn't seal closed like MOST card usually do.  There's something going on here and the recipient will be eager to find out WHAT!
So, let's take a peek and see what THIS card is all about!

As the layers fold back the contents of a loving valentine is revealed surrounded by a LARGE heart.

Isn't that SO FUN!  Wouldn't you love to get some BIG VALENTINE MAIL like THAT!

The valentine within the big heart was created using all sorts of tools and gagets!
The corners of the 4-1/4" X 5-1/2" Cameo Coral™ cardstock where punched with our new Scallop Trim Corner Punch™ from the Occasions Mini Catalog.  The Chocolate Chip™ cardstock was embossed using the Stampin' Up! Big Shot by Sizzix™ and a Petals-A-Plenty™ Textures Impressions Folder.  The Real Red™ scallop heart was also created on the Big Shot™ using  our Stampin ' Up! Embosslits Scalloped Heart of Hearts Die™.  The Very Vanilla™ framing heart was simply punched out using our Full Heart Punch™.  The wood grained and polka dot hearts were stamped and then cut-out, by hand, with paper snips. 
TIP: I adhered the 1/4" Vanilla Grosgrain Ribbon™ to the back of the Very Vanilla™ heart so it would stay in place while I tied my knot.

HERE'S HOW YOU CAN MAKE ONE TOO!
The large "envelope" heart was created by folding a piece of 12X12 Real Red Cardstock™ in half.  Just like in elementary school, draw a half heart on the folded cardstock and then cut the folded cardstock out.  Using a MEDIUM ENVELOPE, to trace around, place the envelope in the middle of the heart and trace it's rectangular shape lightly, with pencil, so you can erase it later.
Using those pencil lines, place your large heart in your Stampin' Up! Paper Cutter™.  Using a SCORING BLADE REFILL™, score four straight lines all the way across the full height and width of the large valentine.  These score lines will be your folding lines to fold down the valentine to envelope size for mailing.

WHOO STOLE MY HEART?

 

Have you seen the darling new LOVE BANDITS STAMP SET™ in the Occasions Mini Catalog?  I received this stamp set for FREE when I attended Stampin' Up! Leadership™ earlier this month (one of the many perks of working with Stampin' Up!™ is all the FREE goodies your recieve).   Here is a sweet little valentine to share with whomever has stolen your heart.  Are you wondering how I punched the mini scalloped edges of the Whisper White™ cardstock?  I didn't, it is our SENDING LOVE NOTES HUGS™ cardstock offered in the Occasions Mini Catalog.  Using the new SMALL HEART PUNCH™, I punched out two Bravo Burgundy™ hearts and tied them at the ends of some white crochet string, so they could dangle inside or outside the card.

The little owl is framed with two flowers punched out with the BOHO BLOSSOMS PUNCH™.  The owl was punched out with the 3/4" CIRCLE PUNCH™ and adhered to the two punched flowers. (Click on images to enlarge)

Journey

I was so inspired by the colors of fall in my area that I had to come home a stamp something.  I love the detail and quality of Stampin' Up!'s art work on their stamps.  I used markers, ink pads and sponges to create this look.  I stamped the tree stamp from Le Jardin Botanique in More Mustard ink pad,  Next, I used a Chocolate Chip marker and colored over the tree trunks.  Then I used the Really Rust and Bravo Burgundy markers to "tap" color onto the leaves of the tree.  This effect is so cool because it really gives the tree dimension and life.

Note: I tapped the long side of the brush end of the marker over the leaves.  Always remember to start with your lightest color and move to the darkest.  This will prevent your lighter colors from getting dark ink on them.

TIP-

Do you notice my "Label" tag is longer than the LABEL PUNCH?

You can make tags any length you want by cutting a strip of paper the width of your punch.  Slip the paper into the punch and before it goes all the way through to the other side, slip your finger in and make the paper come out the bottom of the punch.  When you punch, it will only punch the section of paper you still have inside the punch.  This can be done with ANY of our punches!  See picture below.

Bad to the Bone Birthday

I made a fun birthday card for a friend.  He's not much of a card guy, but I hoped he'd get a kick out of this.  I think the most fun from this card was making it!  I had to do some clever thinking to come up with some of this stuff.  I noticed the bones on the skull and crossed bones stamp looked like hearts on the ends.  So using my HEART PUNCH and some narrow strips of white card stock, I made some big bones to cross the entire front of the card.  My three spooky characters are the from the BATTY FOR YOU stamp set.  Using my 1", 1-1/4" and 1-3/8" CIRCLE PUNCHES, I cut out all my figures and saved the ring of "Bad to the Bone" which encircled the skull and crossed bones image.  The circle textured background was created using an impressions style folder in my BIG SHOT.  The colors I used here are Basic Gray, Basic Black, Whisper White, Lovely Lilac, Old Olive and Only Orange.

So I had to make the inside fun to try and get a smile out of my friend.  Here's what I came up with . . .

Of course I had to add one of my spooky fun ghost to set the mood!  I then stamped my UNDER THE STARS bears twice and put one of them on the shoulders.  They pop-up when you open the card!  They needed a big Basic Black cape, lined in Only Orange, and bedazzled with purple glitter.  I even added a glitter mask (to offset the googly eyes), belly and shoes to their costumes.  The big spiders came from the BATTY FOR YOU stamp set and the smaller spiders came from the EAT DRINK AND BE SCARY stamp set.  I used a BASIC BLACK MARKER to color just the spiders and omit the rest of the images on the stamps.  "Happy Birthday" and "Birthdays are the Best" both came from a retired birthday stamp set and the "happy birthday" was punched out with an old (retired) 1/4" Square Punch.

Yeah, I pulled out all kinds of stuff to put this card together and it was so FUN!  I hope you get a kick out of  this set-up and it inspires you to make something fun, too.

UNDER THE STARS

Botanique Thanks Embossed

Happy Fall Ya'll!  I just love seeing all the colors of Fall.  The leaves are turning vibrant colors and falling from the trees and the air is getting cooler as this new season is being introduced.

As my inspiration came from nature on my Cattails card, it again comes from nature for this card as well.  The Night of Navy cardstock color represents the evenings getting darker sooner.  The More Mustard and Soft Suede represent just two of the beautiful colors on display in this season; fallen leaves and bare tree branches.

I added lots of texture with this card with the PAPER CRIMPER on the More Mustard and again on the Soft Suede with the SU! THANKS Embosslit (a small metal folder that will cut & emboss cardstock in one single pass through the BIg Shot.)  The paper crimper was one of the few ways I had to create texture on paper before the creation of TEXTURZ PLATES and FOLDERS.  The BiG SHOT has really changed the way I create my cards and projects now.  In some ways it's like the computer . . . I don't know how I ever got along without it!  : )

Sweet Treat Halloween Card

This one was crazy.  I'm always trying to come up with something just a little bit different.  I had to figure out a way to utilize a sweet treat cup into a Halloween card.  This is what I came up with!  Enjoy this little VIDEO segment showing how to creatively incorporate the SWEET TREAT CUPS in your projects.

Beary Special Birthday Card

Our NEW Build-A-Bear products are ADORABLE!

I've used the little boy bear in this stamp set to make a cute little boy birthday card.  Using our cool Aqua Painter and a few drops of ink from the reinker bottles, I watercolored this little guys and brought him to life. I cut him out leaving about a 1/16" border of white.  Dimensionals (learn more) popped him right off the card.  What a great way to wish your little guy a "beary" happy birthday! Tip: the green half circle was a "petal" cut off one of the Bigz Petal Card Dies used in another project.

For You Dad

June is the month to think of Dad's & Grads.  This rope string left over from Christmas time was a great textured addition to the front of this card.  The knot placed over the tree trunk with the ends frayed looks like the tree roots.  The sentiment from the Full of Life stamp set said if perfectly for my dad.  The indented punch outs on either side of the card were created with the 1/2" Circle Punch.  I just barely punched it on the "hinge" side of the card to allow a pass through for the rope string.  VersaMark ink was used on the tree, background leaves and "For You" over-stamped background.  The word "Dad" was hand written using the fine tip on the Chocolate Chip marker.  I hope this card will help you share your sentiments with your Dad on Father's Day.
